The Swamp, Lucrecia Martel, 2001
February is the season of suffocating heat and tropical rains in the swamps of northwest Argentina. A few kilometers from the town of La Ciénaga, at a country property known as La Mandrágora, Mecha, in her fifties, spends the summer with her four children and dull husband. She drowns her sorrows in wine. Tali is Mecha’s cousin. She also has four children. When two accidents bring the two families together, they will need to overcome new challenges.
