In late 1970s California, Eddie Adams (Mark Wahlberg) works as a dishwasher in a nightclub before being spotted by Jack Horner (Burt Reynolds), an adult film director. Thanks to his charisma and talents, Eddie quickly achieves success and wins several awards over the next two years. He becomes friends with other cast and crew members, buys a luxury car and moves into a new house. However, with the arrival of the 1980s, he feels threatened when Jack recruits a new actor. Increasingly confronted with personal difficulties, Eddie decides to leave the adult film industry to pursue a career in music, where he soon encounters new obstacles. As major changes affect the industry and his colleagues, Eddie goes through a difficult period before trying to reconnect with his professional past.
