Gaspard, a student and guitarist, waits for Léna, but instead meets Margot, who befriends him. Léna reappears but shows herself to be unstable and hurtful. Gaspard then turns to Solène, but their relationship becomes strained. Margot, in love with Gaspard, tires of her role as his confidante. Unable to choose between the three women, Gaspard decides to leave for La Rochelle to pursue a business opportunity, leaving behind a disappointed but loyal Margot.
