The Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech (mYSLm), partnering again with the Instituto Cervantes in Marrakech and the Spanish Embassy in Rabat, is pleased to present a piano and qanûn concert, which will be performed respectively by María Dolores Gaitán and Aziz Samsaoui on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at the Pierre Bergé Auditorium at the mYSLm.

Alhajas is a recording project that combines musical roots from the al-Andalus era with a modern piano language. Inspired by the rich confluence of cultures of medieval Al-Andalus, this unique repertoire combines traditional and modern approches to the music, highlighting previously unpublished compositions rarely performed in concert halls.

María Dolores Gaitán
The pianist, researcher and music producer María Dolores Gaitán is renowned for her versatility and technical mastery. Her recording projects have been streamed millions of  times, and she has performed in the most prestigious musical venues around the world. The winner of numerous piano and chamber music competitions, she has collaborated with leading orchestras. She is the founder of the Guadalquivir International Piano Festival and is actively involved in the education of women and women’s rights.

Aziz Samsaoui 
A graduate of the Tetouan Conservatory, Aziz Samsaoui is adept at playing Andalusian music on various instruments. As well as directing renowned festivals and cultural initiatives, he has collaborated with international festivals of early and ethnic music. An expert in various stringed instruments, he has participated in various European musical projects and has recorded with numerous traditional music ensembles.
