Aida, an Ethiopian princess, is held captive in Egypt. Amneris, the king’s daughter, considers her a rival because she is loved by Radamès, the head of the Egyptian armies. When the latter returns victorious from a campaign against Ethiopia, Aida is convinced that her father, King Amonasro, died in battle. He actually survived, disguised as a simple soldier, and proposes to his daughter a plot to discover the military secrets of the Egyptians.
With its thrilling score and poignant story of love and heroism, Aida returns to the Met Opera in a brand new production that teleports audiences to the heart of ancient Egypt through elaborate projections and dazzling animation. The soprano Angel Blue, who soared to stardom in Porgy and Bess, sings the title role. This four-act opera is presented in Italian with French subtitles.
