Marzellina dreams of marrying Fidelio, her jailer father’s new assistant. Florestan is locked in the fortress. The governor Don Pizarro is determined to destroy him. He orders Rocco, Marzellina’s father, to dig a grave for the prisoner. But Fidelio, closely linked to Florestan, is determined to prevent his assassination.
