Harry March, a violent and racist army veteran, settles in a remote Northern Territory frontier post, eaten away by alcohol and bitterness. Sam, a middle-aged Aboriginal farmhand, shoots March in self-defense and goes on the run. Then begins a long hunt led by the local authority, Sergeant Fletcher, who is determined to capture a man accused of a heinous crime, the murder of a white man.
