Desert Eyes, (Thisis) ReDeYe, 2021, 5’
The image of the desert is associated with mirages and visions bordering on hallucinations― as the intense heat causes both optical and perceptual illusions due to the vibration of the air. Desert Eyes explores this phenomenon, which is amplified by one’s more usual associations.
Somewhere in the American southwest, a man walks among the well-known organ pipe cacti. As in Lonesome Cowboys and Paris, Texas, myths related to the desert are sensed thanks to the texture of the Super 8 image, which captures the unstable, superheated air and gives an otherworldly impression of a place unlike any other.
Easy Rider, Dennis Hopper, 1969, 95’
Two young bikers, Wyatt and Billy, decide to leave Los Angeles after selling a large quantity of drugs. They head for New Orleans, where they plan on spending their money on the Mardi Gras celebrations.
While crossing the United States on their choppers, they meet a hippie community and discover their way of life. Arrested for marching in an unauthorized parade, they befriend George Hanson, a civil rights lawyer, who accompanies them on the rest of their journey. The three misfits then come face to face with traditional America.
